How we collect information

What we trust, in order

We take information in the order below. The higher it sits, the more certain it is; the further down, the more checking it takes before we use it.

  1. 1. Published APIs (Rakuten Travel, YouTube Data API, Yahoo! JAPAN)
  2. 2. What the hotel states on its own site
  3. 3. Structured data embedded in a page
  4. 4. Search API results — used only to find an article, never stored as the value
  5. 5. Checked by hand by the editors

We read robots.txt and the terms of each service before fetching anything, and we do not crawl without limit.

Stay reports and articles

We neither fetch nor store the body of anyone’s article. What we keep is the title, the publisher, the author, the date, the URL, and the categories we assign ourselves. An image is shown only where we could confirm the terms; where we could not, the piece appears as a text link.

Videos

We store only the metadata the YouTube Data API returns, and we show videos through the embed YouTube provides or as a link to YouTube. We never download or redistribute a video file. View counts are as of the time we retrieved them.

Before anything is published

Nothing goes up just because it was collected. How confidently a piece matches a hotel, how substantial it is, and how recent — each is scored internally, and anything below the threshold stays unpublished.
