Overview

About this hotel

An inn next to Mifuneyama Rakuen at Takeo Onsen in Saga, facing a garden of 150,000 tsubo. Takeo Onsen is said to have a history of 1,300 years, and its tower gate is an Important Cultural Property of Japan. It holds two Michelin Keys in the 2026 selection. The garden is known for its cherry blossom and azaleas in spring, and guests may walk it freely.

Who it suits

Suits a stay built around a vast garden you are free to wander, especially in spring when the cherry blossom and azaleas are out. It also pairs well with exploring the historic onsen town of Takeo.

Style. Traditional timeless ryokan Setting. In the middle of a garden/park created for a feudal lord in 1845 Explore. Takeo & Kyushu. Rooms. Only 11 rooms. I was in Kasho, with its own outdoor onsen, hammock and can walk down to the garden from the backyard @ the hotel. Superb service. Even had fresh bath towels delivered in the morning along with breakfast. It was really hot when I was here so I only had my walk around the garden/park early morning Food & drinks. Splendid dinner and breakfast but my 13 courses dinner felt rushed as all dishes (pre dessert) were served in one hour. Ended the night at the Ochaya 萩野尾御茶屋 to watch Team Lab’s dramatic "Drawing on the Water Surface Created by the Dance of Koi and Boats” Prices. US$ 888 Rating. 4/5 a nice traditional ryokan retreat, probably better to avoid in the summer due to the persistent mosquitoes

Nice onsen hotel. In a beautiful scenic area. I stayed for 2 nights and I had one japanese and one Italian dinner. Both are good. They have a big wine cellar at the restaurant. Excellent service and some staffs speak English.

A very unique stay! Because of the Shinkansen being down, I had to last minute change my plans, but still was able to stay in “Hagaromo” for one night. Service was great from the very beginning. Coming from Funuoka, we took a short 5 minute taxi from the train station (that the ryokan covers!). When we got inside, we were shown our room, they lay down a tarp for your luggage, given welcome drinks, and given a tour of the public baths and sitting areas within the building. In their main sitting area they have cold coffee, tea and mini Sapporo! I used their public bath once. It was great with one bath indoors and one outdoors. Had it all to myself. Fluffy towels and rugs. The food service was great - I couldn’t even eat it all. With the leftover rice for dinner our host made us late night onigiri… which we had after we walked the garden to see the teamlab exhibit. I’d rate that night garden experience a 9/10 because it was just so unique. I’ve never visited a teamlab before but to have it outdoors, walk around in your yukata. We also visited the outdoor bar… it was the best non-alcoholic drinks we ever had (we tried three!). Only call out is that it was wildly hot when we went in September. Also TAKE A MAP! We sort of got lost. We even checked out the connecting hotel the next morning before check-out, but didn’t have time to use its baths. The private bath inside our room was more than enough! Highly recommend if you’re looking for a private, luxe yet still homey experience. 1 night was just enough for a packed itinerary.
