Overview

About this hotel

An inn of separate villas at Unzen Onsen, with 14 sukiya-style villas on about 5,000 tsubo, each with its own garden. It is about 90 minutes by bus or 55 minutes by taxi from JR Isahaya Station. Unzen was the first area in Japan to be designated a national park and is known for its steaming jigoku. It holds one Michelin Key in the 2026 selection and has a hot-spring bath; Unzen’s walking trails are a short walk away.

Who it suits

Suits a quiet stay in a villa with its own garden, walking the trails around Unzen’s jigoku. It is a long way from Isahaya Station, so plan the journey in.

Absolutely top notch service, highest quality food and stunning views. Fine dining from a Michelin Star restroom served in your private room.

Pros Michelin 1 star Very spacious Cons Priced $1000-2000/night Room showed some wear and tear Floor is not solid and ceiling shows some leaking No bedside lighting No towel bar Carpet needs to be replaced They removed TV from the bedroom Also they decided NOT to offer Japanese style breakfast at the restaurant starting December 1, 2025. They kicked us out when we were 3 minutes late for check out. Old man who answered the phone wasn’t helpful and confusing They have downgraded meals….10 varieties offered in 2025 instead of 13 in 2024. Please check YouTube and compare the offering. Coffee machine is difficult to maneuver They wrapped rice scooper with Saran wrap….we found this very odd, are they washing dishes properly? We never seen this practice ever in our lives.
