Overview

About this hotel

A glamping resort in Chosei, the only village in Chiba prefecture. Meals and activities are included in the room rate; the resort runs more than 200 activities across the year and offers more than 20 on any given day, with no booking and no extra charge. There are four room types: a cottage of 40 square metres with its own bathroom and toilet, a dome tent and a bell tent of 36 square metres each that use shared shower and toilet blocks, and an attic room of 87.76 square metres for six to twelve people. All have air conditioning, a fridge and a wood deck. The food follows a theme the resort calls totaberu — eating the land, crossed with travel — and is served as a buffet built on vegetables from the village and fish landed at nearby Ichinomiya. The operator also has sites at Yatsugatake and Tsukuba.

Who it suits

A stay meant to be filled, from arrival to departure. Activities are in the rate and need no booking, so you can decide on the spot. By the same token, it is the wrong fit if the point is quiet. The rooms differ clearly in what they provide: the cottage if you want your own bath and toilet, the dome or bell tent if sleeping under canvas is the point, with the shower and toilet blocks about 30 seconds away. Dogs are allowed in some of the cottages. Dinner is a buffet at the centre house from 17:45 and breakfast runs 7:00–9:00. Soft drinks are included 6:30–22:00 and alcohol 17:00–22:00, with a water dispenser and coffee machine available around the clock.

Features

What this place is like

Checked against the hotel’s own site. Anything we could not confirm is left out — that does not mean it is not there.

Rooms: four types, differing most in plumbing

There are four types. The cottage takes one to five people in 40 square metres, with its own bathroom, toilet and wood deck. The dome tent takes one to five in 36 square metres and the bell tent one to four in the same, both using the shared shower and toilet blocks on site, about 30 seconds away. The attic room takes six to twelve in 87.76 square metres, with four single beds and four doubles. All types have air conditioning, a fridge and a wood deck. Dogs are allowed in some of the cottages. The bell tent gets a stove and a circulator in winter.

From the editors

The cottage is the only type with a bath and toilet in the room. The two tents use the shared blocks, so the choice turns on whether walking there at night is a problem.

Dining: a local buffet, with drinks included in the rate

The food follows what the resort calls totaberu, a word made from eating the land and travel, using ingredients from nearby: vegetables grown in the village, fish landed at Ichinomiya. Dinner is at the centre house from 17:45, varying with the season, as a buffet of Chiba produce, with the roast beef carved in front of you. Breakfast is a Japanese and Western buffet from 7:00 to 9:00. A water dispenser and coffee machine are available around the clock, soft drinks from 6:30 to 22:00 and alcohol from 17:00 to 22:00, all included in the rate.

Activities: more than 20 a day, no booking needed

The resort runs more than 200 activities over the year and offers more than 20 on any given day. None need to be booked and none cost extra, because they are in the rate. What is on offer changes with the season.

We had a pleasant time here at BUB resort. My son enjoyed very much all the different activities. The crew was exceptional, thoughtful and very enthusiastic. The buffet is using local food from Chiba and was very tasty. We will definitely come again. A very big thanks to all the crew, their joy and happiness.
