About this hotel

A ryokan in the Kawakami district of Yufuin, next to Lake Kinrin, with detached buildings set in a wood of mixed trees. It began as a villa in 1921 and later became an inn. The centre of Yufuin is within walking distance. It holds two Michelin Keys in the 2026 selection, has its own dining room and tea house, and looks out on the landscape at the foot of Mount Yufu.

Who it suits

Suits a stay for the quiet that Yufuin is known for, in a detached room among the trees. Lake Kinrin is right beside it and the town centre is a walk away, so it is easy to balance time at the inn with exploring.

    We had a wonderful stay at Kamenoi Bess. The service was exceptional from the moment we arrived, with friendly staff who made us feel welcome. The hot springs offered a relaxing experience, complemented by stunning views. Our room was spacious and beautifully designed, and the meals were delicious, featuring fresh local ingredients.
