Overview

About this hotel

A classic hotel, now 90 years old, on a rise above the sea at Kawana on the Izu Peninsula. It is known as a golf resort, with courses including the Fuji Course, laid out along the natural lie of the land. Sea-facing rooms, the lobby and the sun parlour look out on the sun rising over the Sagami Sea. The hotel also has Brisa Marina, a bathing facility with an open-air bath.

Who it suits

Suits a stay built around golf, or one spent enjoying the spaces of a pre-war classic hotel. Choose a sea-facing room and you can watch the sunrise from your room. The hotel is also known for the room where Marilyn Monroe stayed, and its official site offers a plan to stay in it.

Took my dad here for a golf trip during our Japan journey and it was so delightful. A little out of the way to get to using public transit but worth it for the views from the course! The hotel has an old time charm but does show some signs of wear from over the years. Stills it has the air of sophistication and tradition that’s nice. The room view over the ocean was amazing. Dad loved it. The staff is exceptional and the food was awesome. The Japanese breakfast we got with our room was a massive standout for use do not pass on it! The masseuse was pretty good and the spa was very relaxing and nice to relax in as well. The real highlight was the golf. Course was gorgeous. Even tho it had been raining so heavily for 2-3 days leading up to our arrival the trains were having cancelations the skies parted for our day of play and it was sunny and the course was immaculate still. Course wasn’t too difficult, I only golf once or twice a year with my dad and still only lost 3 or 4 balls in 18 holes. The scenic views from almost every hole were really what made the trip worthwhile. Would definitely recommend! Thank you Kawana hotel!

My family and friends just spent 3 nights here. I already miss this place. The staff was wonderful. The young man at the front desk helped me so many times whether it was calling a cab or setting up a birthday dinner for my girl. But everyone else was so friendly and charming. I agree with one of the reviews here in that the hotel felt like 1030s luxury in HD. It feels older yet like stepping back in time. The spa is fantastic. I wouldn’t change a thing about our visit here. The golf course (Fuji) is incredible. Definitely in my top 3 rounds ever even though I didn’t play my best. I highly recommend a few days here for a quiet, serene, enlightening experience. I will come back. arigatō gozaimasu to all the kawana staff from the bottom of this Californian’s heart ❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏

They charged me 2x what my emailed receipt said, and acted like they didn’t speak English when I tried to contest at checkout. Gross and borderline predatory - stay away. Golf is great, hotel is not. Asked for a refund and they told me to kick rocks. Cherry on top: they didn’t load my golf bag into the car (it was sitting right next to all of my stuff that they grabbed), so I had to coordinate (via email…..?????) to get it from them. Truly a bummer that a top 100 course in the world boasts accommodations this poor.
