About this hotel
Opened by Gora Kadan on 20 July 2025 at Subashiri in Oyama, on the eastern foot of Mount Fuji. All 42 rooms are suites, three of them detached villas. The communal baths, fed by a natural alkaline spring from below the grounds, have both indoor and open-air pools, and the heated swimming pool is set so that the window runs out towards Fuji. There is a golf course on the grounds.
Who it suits
A car meets you at Gotemba Station and elsewhere; call when you arrive. Once here, everything is inside — dinner is a choice of kaiseki, kappo, sushi or teppanyaki. It faces Mount Fuji squarely, which also means the weather decides whether you see it.

What this place is like
Checked against the hotel’s own site. Anything we could not confirm is left out — that does not mean it is not there.
Views: the Hana suite is listed with a Mount Fuji view; the view from its bath is not stated
Of the room pages we read, the rooftop Hana suite (146 m² with an 82 m² terrace) lists a “Mount Fuji view” among its features, along with an open-air view bath. The page does not say whether the mountain can be seen from the bath itself. We have not covered the other room types here. The shared bath area and the pool are described as facing the mountain — see the pool and spa section.
From the editors
If seeing the mountain from your own bath is the point, ask the inn which rooms face it before you book.

Rooms: all 42 are suites, three of them detached
There are 42 rooms in 19 types across five categories. Three are detached villas — Hare at 363 sqm, Ame at 260 sqm and Yuki at 241 sqm. Four rooftop villas run from 100 to 229 sqm, and two garden villas with open-air baths are 199 and 215 sqm. Then come five suites with open-air baths at 136–139 sqm, and 28 standard suites, each 94 sqm. The standard suites differ by the bath in the room — stone, infinity or hinoki — and some can be taken as a twin or a king.
From the editors
Even the smallest standard suite is 94 sqm, so what separates the types is the bath and the bed rather than the space. The three detached villas stand on their own.

Hot spring: the communal baths run 15:00 to 11:00, with the sides swapped partway
A natural alkaline spring drawn from below the grounds, with both open-air and indoor baths. They are open from 15:00 until 11:00 the next morning, and the men's and women's sides swap at some point in between. There is a dry sauna and a mist sauna at the baths, and a hammam by the pool. Children not yet out of nappies cannot use the communal baths.
From the editors
The hours match check-in at 15:00 and check-out at 11:00, so the baths are open whenever you are here. We could not find the time of the swap on the hotel's own site.

Pool and spa: the pool is booked ahead, and private in the evening
The shared bath area, which has indoor and open-air baths, is described as looking out to Mount Fuji. The pool is filled with groundwater and set so that the window runs in a straight line towards Mount Fuji. It is open 08:00–22:00 and must be booked in advance. Children may use it from 09:00 to 18:30; from 19:00 it becomes a private booking for one group a day, at a charge. Children under four, and those not yet out of nappies, cannot use it. The spa runs 09:00–22:00, last booking 21:00, and the fitness room is open around the clock.

Dinner: a choice of five restaurants
Inside are Kadan for kaiseki, a kappo counter, the sushi restaurant Fuji Takumi, the teppanyaki restaurant FUJI KANDA, and THE DINING for all-day dining. Kadan serves in three sittings at 18:00, 18:30 and 19:00; the kappo counter from 18:00, closed Tuesdays and Thursdays; Fuji Takumi from 18:00 for dinner, closed Mondays, and open to visitors at lunch; FUJI KANDA from 17:00, closed the second Wednesday. THE DINING runs 06:30–16:00.
From the editors
Each restaurant closes on a different day, so if there is one you want, check it against your dates first.

Breakfast: at 08:00, 08:30 or 09:00
Breakfast starts at one of three times: 08:00, 08:30 or 09:00. There is a Western option as well as Japanese. Allergies and anything you would rather not eat can be worked around if you say so when booking or by the day before; requests made on the day cannot be accommodated.

Getting there: call for the car once you reach the station
The address is 110-1 Subashiri, Oyama-cho, Sunto-gun, Shizuoka. A car runs to Gotemba Station and elsewhere; you telephone once you have arrived and it comes for you. By Shinkansen the nearest station is Mishima, about 40 minutes away by taxi. By car it is roughly 20 minutes from the Tomei Gotemba interchange along Route 138 towards Kawaguchiko and Yamanakako, about 8 minutes from the Shin-Tomei Shin-Gotemba interchange, and also reachable from the Subashiri interchange on the Higashi-Fuji-Goko road along Route 138. There is parking for 22 cars, with charging for electric vehicles. From Haneda Airport a limousine transfer takes about an hour and a half, and from Narita about two and a half hours; both must be arranged in advance.

Ratings
Collected by the booking sites and by Google. We do not rate hotels ourselves.
My husband and I booked Gora Kadan Fuji for one night as part of our Tokyo/Izu/Fuji trip due to the reputation of Gora Kadan (awarded Michelin 3 stars) and the Mt Fuji view. While the hotel hardware/ design is nice, the service at the hotel restaurant was unacceptable as a 5-star hotel of this price. I was pregnant and my husband was allergic to eggs so when we made the reservation, we already marked down our dietary restrictions (allergies and no raw food and alcohol for pregnant woman) as the reservation included dinner and breakfast. When we sat down for the dinner, we were greeted by a waitress, who then checked her note and would like to confirm that we had no dietary restrictions. We were a bit shocked and told her that we had marked our allergies and dietary restrictions when we made the reservation. Then she replied “oh sorry, now I see one is allergic to eggs and one is pregnant”. Then we thought it’s just a careless mistake by the waitress and continued our meal. However, I was still served a smoked raw fish as my second dish, which we immediately questioned whether the dish was fully cooked or not. The waitress was shocked and asked “this is smoked but not cooked, is it not ok”. And we rejected the raw fish dish. As a replacement, I was served a very simple veggie salad. For the three-kind of sashimi dish that I had, I was again shocked to see that it’s replaced by a few pieces of bean curd, which weren’t even the same value as the sashimi. I was already quite disappointed by how the hotel handled our dietary restrictions. But we nonetheless finished our meal. And at the end, I talked to the restaurant manager to share my disappointment over the services and the dishes. Next morning, we hoped to have a normal breakfast. But to our disappointment again, my husband, who has egg allergies, was served egg rolls as one of the dishes. This made us very disappointed again as the hotel/ restaurant obviously didn’t treat our review properly and still presented the wrong dish. We stayed at a number of similar level hotels during our 7 days’ trip. The other hotels were very careful as to guests’ dietary restrictions. Some of them would confirm the meal preferences before our arrival, and some would confirm upon our arrival, and all of them paid extra attention/ gave extra care to me as a pregnant woman e.g. they would change sashimi dishes to comparable cooked fish dishes, checked if I would be ok with caffeine, put uncooked truffles on the side for me to decide whether to have the raw truffles or not. Comparing the services at those hotels with those at Gora Kadan, we were very disappointed and to a level that I felt we weren’t respected as hotel guests. The whole culinary experience made our last night/day in Japan very unsatisfied/ annoyed. I hope they can improve because the services that we received didn’t live up to our expectations at all and weren’t worth the price we paid at all.
Read the full review on Google MapsThis was the first stay for my wife and I on our honeymoon. We cant say enough about the room, food, onsens, spa, and quality service from every ryoken employee. Every employee went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. When we were enjoying the views of Mt Fuji one morning, we were given green tea and candies. We did the head spa which was worth every penny. Our room was the open air big stone bath and it came with 2 onsens, a steam shower, and 2 toilets. Everything about our stay was amazing and we will be staying there again on our next trip to Japan!
Read the full review on Google MapsAn exceptional experience in every way. I stayed here last fall. Getting to Gora Kadan was straightforward — I was picked up from the train station in a private shuttle, and it was a short easy drive. The grounds are beautiful, particularly the public baths that have a picturesque view of Mt. Fuji. The interiors are minimalist but luxurious, and it’s easy to feel the attention to detail in each passageway. I stayed in a room configuration with the stone tub, which was peaceful and relaxing. The room itself was spacious and had a western style bed in the center of the larger space. It’s hard to understate how amazing the view is from the bedroom and patio — although Mt. Fuji is often cloudy, there was an amazing view during the stay. I opted to have kaiseki in the room, which was lovely! I had dietary restrictions and the staff reached out several times beforehand and during the stay to ensure the meal fit my needs. The ingredients were fresh, well-prepared, and aligned with the seasons. Talk about a stunning presentation! Each dish felt like a piece of artwork. Obviously this was an expensive stay! But it was hard not to appreciate the care to detail and the great service from the staff. Even during miscommunications, the staff was so helpful in resolving any issue.
