What this place is like

Checked against the hotel’s own site. Anything we could not confirm is left out — that does not mean it is not there.

Dining: dinner at 17:30 or 19:30; ask the inn about allergies

The kitchen uses seasonal local produce. Choose a dinner start of 17:30 or 19:30 (let the inn know before you arrive), and a breakfast start of 7:30, 8:00, 9:00 or 9:30 (asked at dinner). Food allergies are handled by substituting ingredients as far as possible, but the same kitchen handles allergens, so traces may remain. If you need an allergen removed completely, the inn asks you to contact it directly.

Getting there: a free shuttle from Shuzenji Station (three runs a day, book three days ahead)

A free shuttle leaves Shuzenji Station’s north exit at 14:15, 15:15 and 16:15. Book at least three days ahead with your arrival time; it runs two seven-seat cars, first come first served. A private taxi can be arranged from Mishima (about 50 minutes) or Shuzenji (about 20) for a fee, booked by the day before. By car, about 45 minutes from the Nagaizumi-Numazu or Numazu exits. EV charging can be requested once you have booked your stay (for parking, see the FAQ).

This is my favourite place to escape to, away from the busy-ness and rush of Tokyo. It’s located in Izu peninsula so it’s not too far for travel to take up your whole morning/afternoon and the scenery along the way is enough to distract us from the the winding roads of the mountain. We went during spring and we stayed traditional tatami room with private bath. The room was nice and clean. There is a balcony/verandah that overlooks the garden and footpath to the public bath. The ryokan has different facilities that kept us busy we barely used our phones. The two public baths were also very clean. The stay comes with kaiseki seasonal dinner and breakfast and both were delicious. The chef has also packed us a small onigiri after dinner to eat in our rooms. I still think about the breakfast set to this date. I recommend this place and well worth the price.

Beautiful, peaceful resort with exceptional food and outstanding staff. I highly recommend it for anyone looking to experience thermal baths surrounded by nature in a truly world-class setting. Be sure to reserve one of the private saunas and riverfront baths. They were an absolute highlight of our stay.

So glad I did some research and decided to stay here- at the hotel and in Izu vs super touristy Hakone. The hotel is exceptional from start to finish. Definitely one of those places that you remember and the staff are incredible. 100% guaranteed great stay. Hope to visit again at some point.
