Nice hotel but kind of old. Good effort on service but they mostly don't speak english which is understandable.

Had such a lovely and memorable stay here, and I really hope to come back one day! I especially loved that guests could use the private onsen whenever it was available.

Awesome place and service. About a dozen room types including a few with private baths. One of the best maintained Ryokan Hotels in Japan for sure. The food was fantastic and the service and attentiveness impeccable. The peach blossoms were just out nearby although not at the Sonohara area. The sakuras in front of the ryokan hotel were withering. Therefore, selecting the time of stay is vital. Hirugami is an onsen area and much more compact than Hakone and much less noisy than Kinosaki. The drive from Nagoya is about 3 hours but another route would be to come via Nagano The Ina valley for sakuras is nearby as is Nakasendo
