This is honestly one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed at. I usually don’t go out of my way to leave positive hotel reviews, but my experience here was so exceptional that I really wanted to share it. The service throughout our stay was outstanding. Every staff member we encountered was warm, attentive, and genuinely thoughtful. I was especially impressed by the housekeeping team — their attention to detail and level of care were truly exceptional and made our stay feel even more comfortable and special. It’s rare for a hotel to leave such a strong impression on me, but this one absolutely did. Thank you to the entire team for making our stay so memorable. I would definitely love to come back again.

Capella Kyoto was very conveniently located, with several of Kyoto’s major sights within easy walking distance. We particularly appreciated the clever use of lighting throughout the hotel. In the evening, the soft lighting and fragrance created a calm and relaxing atmosphere from the moment we returned to the lobby. The hotel’s cultural activities were both enjoyable and closely connected to Kyoto’s local traditions. We joined the omamori and mizuhiki experiences, which were led by instructors invited from well known local specialist shops, their expertise was evident. We would especially like to thank the staff member who assisted as our interpreter during the activities. She was exceptionally warm and friendly, and always made an active effort to help us communicate with the instructors. Her support made both experiences smooth, engaging and memorable. The hotel also held a maiko dance performance in the early evening. After the performance, members of staff helped guests communicate with the maiko by translating their questions, and also assisted with photographs afterwards. It was a thoughtful and accessible way for international guests to experience an aspect of Kyoto’s traditional culture. During turndown service, we received a small gift each evening together with a bottle of warm dashi broth. While the gesture was thoughtful, we did not particularly enjoy the salty broth before bed. Something more soothing might be better, like a bedtime tea. We stayed in a Temple View room, which overlooked the entrance to Kenninji and offered distant views towards Kiyomizudera. During the some certain period, the beams of light above Kiyomizu dera could be seen. However, guests considering this room category should be aware that a cemetery is also directly visible from the windows. There were a few issues during our stay. The staff member who assisted with our check in was not fully confident in English, and communication was occasionally quite difficult. However, as the hotel had only recently opened, we understood that the team was still settling into its operations, and we believe the service will become more polished over time. Overall, Capella Kyoto combined an excellent location with beautiful interiors and thoughtfully designed cultural experiences. Despite a few early operational issues, the hotel had a distinctive sense of place and considerable potential.

I have always been partial to Four Seasons but I thought why not give Capella a try while in Kyoto. Food was excellent and you can order a great menu for room service, not just the basics. Regarding breakfast, I have had eggs benedict all over the world and this hotel is the best ever! #2 food and beverage manager has picked some awesome wines, knowledgeable and polite. All the staff from the Spa to breakfast are great, always smiles. The maids were delightful. John Blanco the GM was amazing taking time with guests and suggesting great areas and places of interest. It was beyond my expectations!
