Overview

About this hotel

A resort on the coast at Onna, on the west side of Okinawa's main island. It is split into a Beachfront Wing and a Sunset Wing and holds several pools, one of them carrying the orchid mosaic that is the emblem of the original Halekulani in Waikiki.

Who it suits

A stay where the pools and the sea fill the day. It is about an hour by car from Naha Airport, so the transfer needs a place in your plans. Guests write about it both as a trip with children and as a trip for two.

What this place is like

Checked against the hotel’s own site. Anything we could not confirm is left out — that does not mean it is not there.

Rooms: the hotel says every room has an ocean view; some types are sold as “partial ocean view”

There are 310 standard rooms, 45 suites and 5 villas. The hotel describes the standard rooms as all having an ocean view (50 m², with a terrace), but 22 of them are sold as “Deluxe Partial Ocean View” (13 in the main building and 9 in the Beachfront Wing). Other types are named “Ocean View” and “Ocean Front”. All five villas (83–165 m²) have a heated private pool and a natural hot spring.

Pools: a children’s pool, and two pools for guests 16 and over

Next to the Orchid Pool is a children’s pool, 0.6 m deep, closed from November to March. Children under 13, or under 140 cm tall, must be accompanied in the water by a guardian aged 20 or over, and children who need nappies wear a swim nappy under their swimsuit. The Quiet Pool and the Ocean Terrace Pool are not open to under-16s. The indoor pool is open all year; from November to March it is for guests 16 and over after 19:00. The pools are for staying guests only.

❤️luxury hospitality in Okinawa. Halekulani Okinawa immediately impresses with its location, atmosphere, and the sense of tranquility you feel from the moment you arrive. Every detail is carefully considered: the interiors are elegant without ever feeling excessive, the service is attentive and highly professional, and the connection with the ocean is ever-present. It is one of those hotels where simply spending time at the property becomes an essential part of the holiday itself. What I appreciated most was the perfect balance between luxury and discretion. The staff are always available when needed, yet never intrusive. The spaces are generous, relaxing, and impeccably maintained. It is an ideal choice for anyone looking for the sea, comfort, excellent dining, and, above all, the opportunity to completely disconnect from everyday life.

I stayed in the hotel in March where the weather was still cool and sometimes drizzly, yet that did not kill the holiday mood this hotel brings. The property looked beautiful as we step foot inside it, and it had a very relaxing vibe despite being luxurious. The rooms were also very beautiful, cozy and beachy. What stood out was the staff, everyone was so friendly and warm, which was above what I had experienced from other places in Japan. We bumped into a staff member taking the lift and she asked how we are, if we needed help, and wished us a pleasant stay. I visited the spa and the staff there were also super kind and helpful and not pushy. The indoor pool which was the only pool opened at the time, they had staff stationed there making sure we had the supplies we needed for our kid, giving us water as we were about to leave. The two meals we had there was also great. The steak restaurant for dinner was delicious, the breakfast at Shiroux was innovative and tasty, and staff were attentive. The view from the bar was amazing. It was a wonderful experience.

I went to the villa in the sunset wing, boy was it nice. When we first arrived, a kind staff handed us complimentary drinks. They were fresh and cold and excellent. They provide buggy service, which can help you get from lobby to villa in seconds. They also have lots of free snacks in the fridge. I had a private pool and onsen ALL TO MYSELF! I went to the beach the next day, it was really rare and comfortable, they included lawn chairs and staff will hand you a cooler full of cold water. The sea is also surrounded by floats to keep you from going to far away, there are also multiple lifeguards. I went to junglia the next day, I won’t get into detail since I was leaving a review for this excellent hotel. I used their snorkeling service too! They are very friendly and thorough. First time snorkeling made a remarkable remembrance of Okinawa. I went to the orchid pool after snorkeling and ordered a taco rice 🌮. It was flavorful and yummy I even ate another one. For dinner, I ate at the steak house, the beef was tender, juicy, and flavorful! Worth every penny! I will come again next year all thanks to their excellent services!🌊🏖️😀
