Overview

About this hotel

A hotel on Sanjo Oji in Nara, the first JW Marriott in Japan. It is about ten minutes on foot from Shin-Omiya Station on the Kintetsu Nara Line, and well placed for driving to the Heijo Palace site and Nara Park. It holds four stars in the Forbes Travel Guide 2026 and one Michelin Key in the 2026 selection, and has a Japanese garden and a tea room.

Who it suits

Suits a stay where you drive between Nara’s temples and the Heijo Palace site. The Japanese garden and tea room give you somewhere to spend time between outings. It is a little way from Nara Park, so if you plan to sightsee on foot, think about how you will get around.

Our stay at the JW Marriott Hotel Nara was wonderful! From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel like family, creating such a welcoming and personal experience throughout our stay. One of our favorite parts was the bike rentals, which made exploring Nara Park and the surrounding area so easy and enjoyable. A special thank you to Jonathan, who went above and beyond by creating hand-drawn maps to help us discover landmarks around the city. It was such a thoughtful touch and made exploring Nara even more memorable! The breakfast buffet was fantastic, with a great variety of options to enjoy each morning before heading out for the day. Between the convenient amenities, morning yoga, beautiful hot tub, delicious breakfast, and genuine hospitality, the JW Marriott Nara was a highlight of our trip. We would absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting the area!

During our time in Japan, my girlfriend unfortunately suffered a severe knee injury. We received truly outstanding support from Ms. Pyone and Mr. Takayama, who went above and beyond to help us. They assisted us in arranging a doctor’s visit on a Sunday, provided fresh ice packs for my girlfriend every day, and always checked in on her warmly whenever we crossed paths. Their kindness and genuine care made a difficult situation much easier for us, and we are incredibly grateful. Beyond the exceptional service, the hotel itself was wonderful. The room and facilities were modern, comfortable, and very well maintained. Another highlight was the excellent beverage selection in the executive lounge, where we really enjoyed tasting the variety of local options. A wonderful stay made especially memorable by the kindness and hospitality of the staff. Thank you again!

We stayed at JW Marriott Hotel Nara for a special anniversary setup, and it turned out to be a wonderful family trip. For dinner, we opted for the teppanyaki restaurant. We were pleasantly surprised by the special anniversary presentation, and the warm hospitality and thoughtful touches from the staff made the occasion truly memorable. Before dinner, we enjoyed pre-dinner drinks at the bar counter. While sipping on nature-inspired cocktails crafted by the bartender, we had an engaging conversation about local sightseeing spots in Nara. Throughout our stay, we also enjoyed the JW original craft beer, champagne, and a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon. The guest room was exceptionally comfortable—the height of the bed, the feel of the linens, and the quality of the pillows were all perfect. The shower water pressure was also just right, allowing us to fully relax. Thank you so much for taking such wonderful care of us. It was a delightful and unforgettable trip for our family.
