Overview

About this hotel

A HOSHINOYA that opened in June 2026 in the buildings of the former Nara Prison, built in the Meiji era and designated an Important Cultural Property. The rooms are made by joining the red-brick cell blocks, and the ceilings are high. Because the structure built as a prison has been left as it is, the corridors and the placement of the windows are unlike those of any hotel. There are 48 rooms, one restaurant and one café-lounge.

Who it suits

A stay for the building itself. It was designed as a prison, which does not suit anyone after an open, resort-like stay. It stands in Hannyaji-cho, away from the temples and shrines around Nara Park, so this is somewhere you come to stay rather than a base for sightseeing. As a building put to new use, its rooms and fittings cannot be judged by the standards of a newly built hotel.
