Overview

About this hotel

A hotel on Noboriji at the western edge of Nara Park, on the site of the former governor’s residence. It is a three-minute walk from the Kencho-higashi bus stop (by bus from JR Nara Station) and 15 minutes on foot from Kintetsu Nara Station. Kofukuji and Todaiji are within walking distance. The building takes its design from Japanese architecture and looks out on the green of Nara Park. It holds one Michelin Key in the 2026 selection.

Who it suits

Suits a stay spent walking through Nara Park to Kofukuji and Todaiji. Being so close to the temples, it is easy to visit them early in the morning or in the evening, when there are fewer people.

Booking & Room Experience I booked a standard room using points and applied a Nightly Upgrade Award as a Platinum member. I was thrilled to see that a few days prior to arrival, the upgrade cleared and we were placed into a beautiful suite. The accommodations were immaculate and set a luxurious tone for the rest of the stay. Dining & Wellness The breakfast at the on-site restaurant was absolutely excellent. We also took full advantage of the evening champagne hour overlooking the gardens, which provided a stunning and relaxing atmosphere to wind down. A surprising highlight of the trip was the morning stretch and meditation program—the instructor was fantastic, and it was an incredibly thoughtful, refreshing way to start the day. Location The location is simply hard to beat. The property is situated right in the center of Nara's main historical attractions, making sightseeing effortless. A quick tip for future guests: it can be a bit difficult to find good restaurants for dinner in the immediate vicinity, as most nearby places close early in the evening. I recommend planning your dinner arrangements ahead of time. Outstanding Service A huge thanks goes to Ms. Takako Ohira for the warmest welcome we could have asked for. She is not only exceptionally kind but deeply thoughtful and considerate. The hotel itself is wonderful, but I would return to this property in a heartbeat simply for the unmatched service we received from her and the entire team.

This hotel was the highlight of my three week trip on Japan. I have Marriott status and was lucky to visit at a time where an upgrade was available. We got the room with the open air private onsen and it was fantastic. It's only a short walk from the Nara park which was very convenient. There are very few restaurants around at night nearby but that was not a problem because the hotel food is very good and reasonably priced. Our only regret was not reserving a seat early for the sushi restaurant inside the hotel. It has very high demand and we were not able to visit. Even then, ours was a memorable experience.

Stayed here for a few nights in mid-April. The staff was friendly and put a lot of effort into helping my family. The room was clean and comfortable, we stayed in a junior onsen suite. The property itself is rich with history, and has immaculately kept gardens and grounds. Will absolutely be back.
