Overview

About this hotel

Beside Nara Park, near the old Daijo-in garden. A low building that Kengo Kuma had a hand in designing, with a hot spring bath in every room. One of the few places of this kind in Nara.

Who it suits

Nara is a city most people pass through in a day, so what staying buys you is Nara Park in the early morning and the evening, with no one in it. Todai-ji and Kofuku-ji are within walking distance.

Nestled deep inside Nara Park, this is such a beautiful place to stay. The staff doesn’t speak English very well, but you can get away with Google translator. Apprently Kuma Kengo was involved with the architecture, and the entire establishment is just relaxing and inviting. Can’t get better than this place. Highly recommend.

Our four-night stay here this April was hands-down the highlight of our trip. We booked a Corner Suite, which perfectly showcased the resort's beautifully dark, moody, and relaxing atmosphere that makes the entire property feel like a true sanctuary. Having our own private, open-air onsen on the balcony was pure bliss after a long day of walking around Nara Park. Since we stayed for a few nights, we had the opportunity to try both the Kaiseki and teppanyaki dinners. While both were incredible, our teppanyaki chef, Mr. Shingawa (申川), was absolutely wonderful. He made both of our evenings so special with perfect food and great conversation—even though we don’t speak Japanese, Google Translate worked like a charm! Another huge highlight was the breakfast. Every single morning, they served something completely different. Waking up to a brand-new, delicious spread of local dishes each day was such a treat. Our only regret is that we had to catch an early flight on our final morning and missed out on a fourth breakfast! The service here is flawless, and the staff is incredibly warm. We truly cannot wait to return! Also, we have reserved a Luxury Suite at FUFU Kyu-Karuizawa for a three-night stay this coming October and are very much looking forward to our visit!

Stumbled upon this place during a hike in the park. Amazing people and really friendly staff. I dont know what that welcome drink was but it was oishii! Thanks for everything!
