Overview

About this hotel

Occupies the upper floors of Shinjuku Park Tower and has been open since 1994. Known as a film location, its top-floor bar and glass-walled pool have been landmarks since the day it opened.

Who it suits

A stay where the building itself is the point. It is a walk from Shinjuku Station, so it suits people who would rather have quiet than be next to a station. It has been through a long renovation, so stay reports differ depending on when they were written.

Unfortunately, I was left highly disappointed in my stay here. After staying in several other hotels in Tokyo during my three-week stay in Japan, the Park Hyatt Tokyo made it to the lower end of the list of places I would return. To start, we arrived at around 3:40pm, and our room was still not ready. No upgrades available, and our request was quickly dismissed. The check-in process took around 30 minutes, and the service was adequate but frankly quite below the standard we had experienced at our other stays in Japan for similar hotels and ryokans. I had a meeting at 4:30 (in the hotel), and our room was not ready upon check-in or even shortly after check in. We had to wait a short while outside the room despite it being more than an hour past the posted 3pm check-in time. Service at the New York Bar was adequate but below the standard we experienced elsewhere in Japan. Breakfast the next day was excellent and service improved compared to the rest of the spaces in the hotel. Beds were very comfortable, and the room was very clean and well-designed; however, the duvet was a little thick for a warm October, even with the A/C turned on. Additionally, despite being on the 45th floor, I woke up from sirens around 2am and 3am, probably due to the location near Shinjuku. We received a bottle of champagne and some fruit from Nagano Prefecture for the inconvenience of having to wait to check in to our room, but I still cannot recommend this hotel to others. I found several less expensive hotels to be much better in terms of service, design, and overall experience, particularly, The Okura Tokyo, which I highly recommend to those visiting Tokyo.

I have stayed at Park Hyatt Tokyo twice before the renovation, and this was my second stay since it reopened. I have to say that this was probably my best experience at the hotel so far. In the past, it was extremely difficult to find rooms available for points redemption. However, availability seems to have improved significantly. Sometimes, you can even find rooms just one or two months before your stay for as little as 35,000 Hyatt points per night. For this stay, I redeemed 115,000 points for three nights, averaging 38,333 points per night. At a valuation of $0.02 per point, that works out to approximately $767 per night. Interestingly, this is almost exactly what I paid last week at Kimpton Shinjuku through Chase’s The Edit program. I really hope Park Hyatt Tokyo will join The Edit program in the near future. The rooms are already spacious and comfortable even without an upgrade. This time, I was upgraded to a Deluxe Room, a beautiful corner room with excellent views. I could even see the Kimpton Shinjuku hotel just below! The breakfast has also improved considerably compared to my previous visits, especially the bakery selection. If you love bread and pastries, I highly recommend trying as many as possible. I live in Germany, where excellent bread, ham, and cheese are part of everyday life, but I honestly found the breakfast quality here even better than what I usually experience in Germany. I also tried the hotel’s pastry shop this time, and everything I had was excellent. I would definitely recommend picking up a few pastries during your stay. There are so many things I love about this hotel that I kept asking myself whether there was anything negative worth mentioning. The only possible drawback is the location. It takes about 10–15 minutes to walk to Shinjuku Station. However, I actually consider this a positive, as it gives me a chance to get some exercise after enjoying all that delicious food! Overall, Park Hyatt Tokyo remains one of my favorite hotels in Tokyo. The renovation, improved breakfast, spacious rooms, excellent service, and better points availability have made an already wonderful hotel even better. I will definitely keep coming back!

The park Hyatt Tokyo is a grand experience! We arrived at 6pm after having flown “overnight” and jumped ahead in time by 13 hours. We were exhausted and our brains were not functioning well. The staff grabbed us at the entrance of the office complex (the Park Hyatt is in an office tower) and whisked us to the entrance of the Hyatt 41 floors up where we were handed off to another staff member who quickly registered us and then walked us to our room. She oriented us to our suite & bid us goodnight. The building is huge and we tended to need reminders which way to head, which the staff did graciously. My husband’s temporary implant fell out. Conceirge found him a dentist IN the office complex beneath the Hyatt. Wonderful club level on floor #45 with excellent gym/work out facility, pool, wet & dry saunas, plunge pool, spa, & tranquility rooms to read and relax. The breakfast was offered as traditional Japanese breakfast (limited and on a first come, first served basis) or western breakfast of eggs/bacon/sausage etc. that could be ordered à la carte. In addition, there was a buffet of breakfast items, both sweet pastries and Japanese offerings. Overall, an amazing experience with kind, hard working, positive wonderful people who smiled and offered kind greetings and help at every turn. Most people of the front staff(Conceirge, valet, hosts and hostesses) spoke English well. We would use Google Translate if we ran across a harder concept when out in public and at the dentist:)
