Overview

About this hotel

On the upper floors of Kioi Tower, with a lobby lounge on the thirtieth looking out over the city. The green of the Imperial Palace and the Akasaka Estate fills more of the view than it does from most hotels in central Tokyo.

Who it suits

A stay for the view and for the pool and spa. Akasaka-mitsuke and Yotsuya are walkable, so it also works as a base. The night-view side and the green side are different stays, which makes reports that mention the direction worth reading.

What this place is like

Checked against the hotel’s own site. Anything we could not confirm is left out — that does not mean it is not there.

Views: the hotel says what each room type looks out on

The official room list describes the view room type by room type. From the Grand Deluxe Premier King (floors 30–34) a daybed looks out on the Imperial Palace and Tokyo Skytree, among other sights; from the Club Deluxe Premier Twin (floors 34 and 36) Mount Fuji can be seen from the window on a clear day. The Prince Gallery Suite (floor 34) pairs a fireplace with Tokyo’s night view in its living room. The two Grand Deluxe types have a view bath with a television.

Spa and pool: what the baths cost depends on your room

SPA & FITNESS KIOI is open 06:30–22:00, last entry 21:30, and guests can use the gym around the clock. For guests the gym and pool are free; the bathing facilities, which include the lockers, baths and sauna, are ¥3,300. Those staying on the Club Floor or in a Grand Deluxe or Suite room use the baths at no charge as well. The spa uses Swiss Perfection products and runs 10:00–22:00, with treatments for couples and for expectant mothers.

From the editors

If you are choosing this hotel for the spa, what you actually pay depends on the room. To have the bathing facilities included, you need the Club Floor or above.

Update: the hotel has reached out, and I’m happy to say that they took the review graciously and seriously. Thank you. In general, this was one of the better hotels I’ve stayed at. The staff is consistent for the most part, very helpful and polite. Check-in was very smooth. One interesting part to note is that we’d just came back from Hakone, whilst staying at a Michelin starred hotel there too. When handing my passport to them, they were quick to notice it was my birthday in 2 days, and gave me a card, a message on my dessert plate during dinner and some bath salts when I checked in for a massage. The day of my birthday was when we checked into Prince. I gave my passport but no acknowledgement then, or throughout our stay. I would like to clarify that I’m not upset by it, but there was stark contrast in the details of this hotel’s hospitality. Our room had a great view-you can even see Mount Fuji if there are no clouds. We ordered room service and the food was delicious. We had inaniwa udon and uni pasta. The service was cordial but felt a little awkward as they were wheeling the food cart in. In terms of atmosphere, it can be quite lively during post work and evening hours (the bar is right below the check-in counters). The hotel is beautiful and the area surrounding is well-connected. There’s also a beautiful garden nearby at the New Ohtani hotel. I would like to point out several frustrating aspects during the check out process. When the staff came to pick up our luggages it was two ladies, which I have no problem with but if they were struggling with our suitcases, why did no male staff come with them to help? We checked out by mobile and waited in our hotel room for the cab to arrive to take us to the airport. We exited the room before check out hours too. As we waited, we received 2 phone calls about it, continuously asking if we’d checked out and even mentioned that we can do it via mobile. As we went to the 36th floor, once again, we were asked by the front desk if we’ve checked out. This became very annoying as I wondered if anyone had bothered to communicate with one another. It gave me the feeling that the staff was too eager to push us out. Overall the stay was nice, but there were certain aspects that gave friction to our otherwise good experience.

Very disappointing service for such an expensive hotel. I checked out at the Club Lounge, handed my luggage to the staff, and asked them to arrange an airport taxi. They told me I could go straight downstairs to board. There were no other guests or bags in the departure lobby—only my hotel-arranged taxi, with its trunk already closed. I confirmed the booking name with the staff before getting in and reasonably assumed my luggage had been loaded. At the airport, I discovered that my luggage, including my work computer, had been left behind. Instead of first helping solve the problem, the hotel blamed me for keeping the luggage claim ticket and refused to acknowledge its mistake. In my experience, this shows serious problems with the hotel’s management and staff coordination. For the premium prices and high service fees charged, this careless handling and lack of accountability were unacceptable. Other travellers should be careful: personally check that every bag is loaded before leaving, even when the hotel arranges your taxi and tells you everything is ready. Based on how my case was handled, you may face blame instead of prompt help when something goes wrong.

We absolutely loved our stay here. Honestly, it’s the nicest hotel we’ve ever stayed at and was such a special way to end our trip to Japan. The hotel itself was beautiful, the room was amazing, and everything felt incredibly comfortable and luxurious. What really stood out though was the staff — every single person we spoke to was so kind, welcoming and genuinely helpful. Nothing ever felt like too much trouble and the service was exceptional throughout our stay. We felt completely looked after from the moment we arrived until we left. We’re already sad to be back home and would come back in a heartbeat. Thank you for making the end of our trip so memorable. Easily one of the best hotel stays we’ve ever had.
