Overview

About this hotel

Concrete cabins stepped down a slope above Lake Kawaguchi. It opened as the first glamping resort in Japan, and the terrace of each cabin is the centre of the stay. How you spend your time here is designed around being outdoors.

Who it suits

A stay the weather decides. Whether Mount Fuji shows itself is luck, and the stay reports record both the days it did and the days it did not. The fire pits and the outdoor activities are part of what you are booking.

Dining: booked separately; the tasting course cannot be adapted for allergies

Meals are booked separately from the room. For dinner, choose the Gastronomic Wild course in the dining room, or a sukiyaki or shabu-shabu hot pot served on your cabin terrace (for two or more, book by 17:00 on the day). The soy-milk shabu-shabu with yuba and vegetables is suitable for vegetarians. Breakfast is either a Morning Box delivered to the cabin (book by the day before) or the Grill Morning in the dining room. Cancelling any meal on the day costs 100% of the price.

From the editors

The tasting course cannot be changed for allergies or dislikes. If you have dietary requirements, check the hot pots and the à la carte menu before you book.

Getting there: no shuttle — taxi or local bus from Kawaguchiko Station

There is no shuttle. From the nearest station, Kawaguchiko, take a taxi or a local bus. From Shinjuku, the Kaiji limited express and the Fujikyu line reach Kawaguchiko in about 120 minutes; highway buses from Tokyo, Shibuya and Shinjuku stations take about the same. Parking is free and needs no booking, and there are EV chargers.

My wife and I have just had a three night stay at this hotel, it was a fantastic break away from the bright lights of Tokyo. My wife unfortunately come down with fever during our.stay, the staff were very helpful, especially Nanna who's English was exceptional, I wish I could say the same about my Japanese. They ordered me a taxi to the local town so I could pick up some medication for my wife's fever. The staff really couldn't do enough for you, very thoughtful and caring. We managed to see Mount Fuji which made our break very special indeed. I would highly recommend.

By far the best resort-type hotel at Kawaguchi-ko. Every room has a clear view of Mount Fuji, weather permitting. The hotel is set in nature, located right next to a nature reserve. They organise events such as jungle walk, firewood cutting, morning stretching, fire brewed coffee and breathing exercises on the hills within the compound and each were simple yet enjoyable. Staffs are extremely polite and friendly. They remembered our names by heart by the second day. Food quality is fantastic, though somewhat pricy. Overall, highly recommended. I definitely hope to be back again someday.
