Overview

About this hotel

Next to Myoho-in in Higashiyama, with Shakusuien — a pond garden said to be more than eight hundred years old — inside the grounds. The guest wings are arranged around it, so the water is below you from indoors.

Who it suits

Close enough to reach Sanjusangendo and Kiyomizu-dera on foot or with a short ride. It suits a stay that wants time looking at the garden as well as time out sightseeing. Reports from families with children are relatively common.

Hospitality at its finest! Stayed at the Four Seasons Kyoto for six nights with my family in a one bedroom residence suite to celebrate my 40th birthday. We couldn’t have been happier we chose this hotel to kick off our two weeks in Japan. First and foremost a huge shoutout to the entire team for making our family feel welcome. Staff members knew my children’s names as we walked through the hotel—even people who we only met one time. A special shoutout to Susie for bonding with my daughter over feeding the fish and always having plenty of fish food for her. It was the hundreds of little moments throughout the week that made the stay incredibly special (including all of the cultural activities!). The rooms are truly spectacular. We were able to all comfortably fit, the beds were outstanding, and the Japanese design made us truly feel like we were in historic Kyoto—with all the modern amenities you’d expect. The bathrooms were beautifully done and the showers were perfect The food onsite was world class—I still dream of the steak sando from the lobby bar, SEY. It was so good I got it twice. We opted for the daily breakfast option given our two young kids and were so glad we did. The buffet was excellent as were most of the à la carte options (some were just so so, my one piece of constructive feedback from the entire stay) The pool and spa were truly breathtaking. I’ve stayed at a lot of five star hotels and this one may have been the nicest indoor pools I’ve been to. Got a four seasons massage on my birthday that had a great combo of deep pressure and relaxing. Lastly, I know reviews of location has been a tossup, but I thought it was great. Quiet area on an 800 year old garden—exactly what was needed for a break from daily life. Thank you so much again for an amazing stay, we’ll definitely be back if we find ourselves in Kyoto again.

I had a wonderful stay at Four Seasons Hotel Kyoto. Despite being located in the heart of the historic Higashiyama district, the hotel feels like a peaceful retreat away from the city's crowds. The highlight of the property is undoubtedly the beautiful 800-year-old Shakusui-en Garden, which creates a unique atmosphere throughout the hotel. I stayed in a Premier Heritage Garden Room with direct garden access, and the room was spacious, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed with elegant Japanese touches. The service was exceptional, with every staff member being warm, attentive, and professional. Breakfast at EMBA KYOTO GRILL was excellent, especially the traditional Japanese breakfast enjoyed with views of the garden. I also loved visiting FUJU Tea Lounge, which offers a tranquil setting for matcha and Japanese sweets overlooking the pond. Overall, Four Seasons Hotel Kyoto perfectly combines luxury, comfort, and Kyoto's cultural heritage. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable stay in Kyoto.

Amazing stay at Four Seasons Kyoto. The hotel itself is stunning, particularly the gardens and beautiful historic pond, which give the whole place an incredible sense of calm. The rooms are excellent, the food and breakfast were first class, and the location is perfect for exploring Kyoto. great effort by all the staff. Without exception, everyone we dealt with was warm, friendly and genuinely helpful. Nothing ever felt like too much trouble, and the attention to detail throughout our stay was exceptional. We stayed as a family and felt well looked after from the moment we arrived until the moment we left. It manages to deliver everything you would expect from a genuine five star hotel while still feeling relaxed and welcoming. A wonderful few days in Kyoto and a hotel we would return to without hesitation. Highly recommended.
