Ocean-view luxury hotels and resorts in Japan

Japan has a long coastline, and some of its best-known luxury stays look straight out to sea: beach resorts in Okinawa, cliff-top ryokan on the Izu Peninsula, and hotels above the bays of Atami and Ise-Shima.

Not every room faces the water, so check the room type when you book. The table below shows what each hotel’s official site says, room by room, for the properties we have checked; guests’ room tours show which rooms get the view.

Where is the view?

Which rooms see the sea?

What each property’s official site says. Not a ranking. A view from the room does not mean a view from its bath; “Not stated” means the hotel does not say, not that there is no view.
